Withholding Tax (Quellensteuer)

Employees holding B, L, or G permits are subject to withholding tax. Rates depend on marital status, children, church affiliation, and income level. Employees earning above CHF 120,000/year must also file a regular tax return.

Payroll FAQ

Employers must pay approximately 13–16% of gross salary in mandatory social contributions: AHV/IV/EO at 5.30%, ALV at 1.10%, BVG pension (7–18% by age), UVG accident insurance (~0.5%), and family allowances (~1.7% in Zürich).

B, L, and G permit holders are subject to withholding tax (Quellensteuer). The employer calculates using cantonal tariff tables, deducts monthly, and remits by the 15th of the following month.
